Las Vegas, NV (December 10, 2021) – The Nevada State Police, together with Nevada Highway Patrol troopers, are investigating a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian wreck that happened on State Route 373 Friday evening, December 10.
The NSP says the crash involved a pedestrian and an unknown vehicle, which reportedly fled the scene. As a result of the incident, SR 373 was closed in both directions for several hours.
Paramedics attempted life-saving measures on the victim but pronounced her dead at the scene of the wreck.
Nye County Sherrif’s Office deputies were also at the scene. Authorities are still piecing together the circumstances surrounding the collision, however, and asked anyone with information to contact them directly.
This is an ongoing investigation.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim.
Nevada Pedestrian Accident Fatalities
Driving under the influence and failure to yield the right-of-way are two of the leading cause of traffic accidents in the Silver State. Moreover, these two causes, along with distracted driving and speeding, are the top contributors to auto-pedestrian wrecks in Nevada.
Pedestrian fatalities also account for nearly 20% of all vehicle accident deaths, per reports from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Although deaths were lower in 2019 overall, they have increased more than 50% since reaching their lowest point, recorded in 2009. Unfortunately, the pedestrian fatality rate in and around the greater Las Vegas area, including Reno, has risen steadily in the last decade.
Major financial difficulties, long-term physical issues and disability, and severe emotional scarring are just a few of the devastating circumstances victims endure. And when victims die as a result of these incidents, their loved ones may be left in an unbelievably tough position. Families must often cope with exorbitant medical and funerary expenses on top of grieving their loved ones.
Thankfully, if you’ve sustained injuries or lost someone you love in an auto-pedestrian accident, you may have legal options moving forward.
