Wrecks Involving Hit-and-Run Drivers in Nevada
If a hit-and-run or hit-skip accident leads to the death or physical injury of another person, the defendant faces severe penalties under Nevada law. Drivers who flee the scene of an accident may face felony charges, which carry a minimum sentence of two years and a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail.
Unfortunately, Nevada has one of the worst rates of deadly hit-and-run incidents in the country, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT). When compared to the national average, one hit-and-run incident per minute, this figure is very alarming. Furthermore, these major collisions led to roughly 2,000 deaths in only one year, in reference to the most recent data delivered by the American Automobile Association (AAA).
Authorities noted that this is the highest number ever recorded, with the figure nearly doubling over a 10-year span.
Of course, victims of these accidents may face a uniquely tragic set of circumstances, from profound financial difficulties to ongoing health concerns and physical pain, not to mention significant stress and emotional strain. The negative implications of a hit-and-run incident are amplified, since those affected by these catastrophic automobile collisions may not know what to do next or where to turn.
