Intoxicated driving and excessive speed are the top causes of road fatalities in Las Vegas and across Nevada. In reality, impaired driving was the leading cause of accidents, injuries, and fatalities in Nevada in 2018, accounting for almost 135 deaths. A close second is excessive speed, and both are readily avoided. In addition, the use of alcohol, marijuana, or prescription drugs while driving is responsible for at least 43% of fatal crashes in Nevada.

In contrast, excessive speeding accounted for almost 32% of all road deaths in Nevada. Even worse, high-speed collisions are becoming more common in the Las Vegas area.
