Las Vegas, NV (May 17, 2022) – An investigation was opened into a significant collision that took place at an intersection in Eastern Las Vegas on the evening of Monday, May 17, by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
The driver of a Dodge was involved in the accident and allegedly struck a pedestrian near the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Desert Inn Road. The pedestrian, who was only identified as a minor child, was taken to Sunrise Hospital in an ambulance with injuries that were considered serious but not life-threatening. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the driver remained at the site in order to assist investigators.
The investigation is still underway, and drivers have been asked to avoid the area as officials work on processing the scene.
The injured victim and their loved ones are in our thoughts. We hope for their fast and full recovery.
Serious Injury in Nevada Pedestrian Accidents
The preliminary state numbers that were supplied by the Nevada Department of Transportation indicate that 2021 was the worst year for automobile accidents in the Silver State since 2006, according to the statements made by officials. By the end of December, there had been approximately 390 people who died on Nevada’s roadways, representing an increase of about 21% in comparison to the year 2020.
The numbers were even grimmer in and around Clark County, where there were around 250 deaths. Unfortunately, the most common reasons for these fatal accidents were excessive speed and driver impairment, and this was especially true for collisions in which pedestrians were involved.
Across the state, pedestrian fatalities are also on the rise year over year, with more than 80 people losing their lives in 2021 alone. When a victim is hit by a reckless motorist, sadly, they are at a significantly greater risk of suffering severe, life-threatening injuries or perhaps dying as a result of the collision. Accidents like this often leave the victims with painful, chronic physical problems that could last for the rest of their lives.
In the event that victims are able to achieve a complete recovery from their injuries, they may be taken aback by the rapidly growing costs of medical care, lost wages and future earnings, and other associated expenses. When a pedestrian is killed, however, the devastated family members of the deceased are forced to face exorbitant medical expenditures and burial costs, all as they attempt to properly grieve their lost loved one.
