Las Vegas, NV (June 12, 2022) – Officers from the Las Vegas Metro Police Department were sent to investigate an accident involving a semi-truck driver that injured at least one person on Sunday, June 12.
At roughly 9:45 p.m., an accident occurred on eastbound Sahara Avenue near the 215 Southern Beltway, blocking multiple left lanes of traffic. The collision caused a major traffic jam on the highway, which lasted nearly an hour. In addition, Las Vegas EMS units and medics were sent to the scene to check the severity of the victims’ injuries.
However, neither officers with the LVMPD nor any other first responders who were on the scene have given any information on the origin of the crash or the nature of the injuries sustained by those involved. The official investigation into the events immediately preceding today’s traffic crash is still underway, and no new details have been disclosed.
We wish everyone who was injured in today’s accident a fast and complete recovery.
Semi-Truck Collisions in Las Vegas
According to recent figures from the Nevada Department of Transportation, there were over 52,500 car accidents in the state in just one year. Tractor-trailer or large vehicle accidents have substantially worse statistics. Indeed, truck-related deaths accounted for almost 9% of all traffic fatalities in Nevada.
Major truck accidents are unfortunately all too often in Nevada, especially given the desert’s huge stretches of road. Worse, over 4,760 persons were killed as a consequence of these incidents, demonstrating that there are far too many tractor-trailer accidents in Nevada. This is notably true on the state’s main roadways, such as Highway 95, which goes through Las Vegas; Interstate 15, which links Las Vegas to Reno and other towns; U.S. Route 93; and Nevada Interstate 395, which runs throughout Carson City. Victims and their families are particularly vulnerable in the aftermath of fatal incidents around the state.
