Las Vegas, NV (November 28, 2021) – Three people were killed, including two children, in a Sunday morning accident that occurred in Nye County.
A driver is facing charges after being suspected of impairment and reportedly causing that accident. Nevada State Police said the collision happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 95 at mile marker 27, in an area near Amargosa Valley. The incident killed a man, a young boy, and a girl. Two other people were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and a dog was also killed in the crash.
A preliminary investigation conducted by police shows that the driver of a silver Volvo had been traveling northbound on the U.S. 95 when it failed to stay in the travel lane and entered the southbound lanes. The Volvo sideswiped a truck towing a camper and hit a GMC Yukon. No one was hurt in those two vehicles, however.
The Volvo then collided with a gray Chrysler minivan headed southbound, killing the three people sitting on the right side of the van, two adults and three children. A man, boy, and girl all died at the scene. A woman and another boy were taken to Univerity Medical Center in Las Vegas, with the woman airlifted for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The boy suffered moderate injuries requiring transport by ambulance. Both victims are expected to survive.
Finally, the driver in the Volvo then continued northbound in the southbound travel lanes of Highway 95, hitting a white camper van and causing it to roll. The female and male occupants both suffered minor injuries.
State police say the adult male driving the Volvo was arrested for suspected impairment and taken to a detention center in Nye County.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased victims. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery.
