Accidents Involving Commercial Trucks Throughout Nevada
There has been a drop in the number of deaths that occur per mile driven by truck, from about 930 to around 690, since the first fatal accident data was acquired more than 40 years ago. This is a reduction of nearly 36%.
However, according to the most recent data on traffic in the Silver State, commercial vehicles, which include massive tractor-trailers, large metro-area buses, and other similarly large vehicles, played a significant role in approximately 362,000 incidents across the country in only one year. This statistic is based on data collected in only one state. Nearly 4,700 individuals lost their lives as a direct consequence of these incidents, while another 100,000 victims were severely wounded as a result of these incidents.
The fact that Nevada is home to a disproportionately high number of these occurrences involving tractor-trailers should not come as a surprise to anybody. This is especially true on routes such as Highway 95, Interstate 15, which goes through Las Vegas, U.S. Highway 93, and Nevada Interstate 515, which is located in the middle of the Paradise region. Accidents that involve semi-trailer drivers have the overwhelming potential to cause catastrophic damage, both physically and emotionally, as well as life-altering financial repercussions for victims. This is because semi-trailer drivers are more likely to be traveling on longer stretches than other drivers and have a much heavier vehicle.
