Though the events immediately preceding the incident are still unknown, traffic detectives affirmed that neither speed nor impairment is suspected as a factor. Witnesses with any other information on this case should contact the police or Secret Witness as soon as possible.
Our hearts go out to the injured man and his family. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Pedestrian Accident Victims in Nevada
Driving while inebriated and failing to yield at traffic signals or stop signs are two of the main causes of traffic accidents in Nevada. Furthermore, these two elements, as well as reckless or distracted driving and excessive speed, are the leading contributors to auto-pedestrian collisions in Nevada.
Adding insult to injury, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), deaths in pedestrian crashes account for roughly one-fifth of all traffic deaths. Although the rate of fatalities in 2019 traffic crashes was lower, they have risen by approximately half in the decade after 2009, when they were recorded at their lowest levels. Unfortunately, the rate of pedestrian fatalities in the greater Las Vegas area, including Reno, has surged over the past 10 years.
Tragically, victims encounter devastating financial hardships, painful and continuous medical problems, and deep mental trauma. And when victims die as an effect of these situations, their families may find themselves in an extremely complex, emotionally exhausting situation. As they attempt to mourn their loved ones, families sometimes have to deal with outrageous medical, and/or end-of-life and funeral-related, costs.
