Carlin, NV – Juan Alvarado-Martinez Dies in Jackknife Semi-Truck Accident on I-80 at MM 267
Carlin, NV (June 2, 2022) – A man from Salt Lake City was killed on May 27 when a semi-truck lost control in Nevada and allegedly caused a jackknife accident.
The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol has confirmed that the victim is 25-year-old Juan Alvarado-Martinez from Salt Lake City. At around 11:00 p.m., according to authorities, a collision occurred along I-80 lanes in Nevada at mile marker 267. The accident site was situated about 12 miles west of Carlin in Eureka County.
Troopers say a semi-truck driver lost control of his vehicle because he was going too fast for the wet road conditions. The semi-truck first collided with a guardrail, which redirected it across the highway lanes and caused it to collide with the right-hand guardrails. Deputies said that the partially jackknifed vehicle was obstructing the highway’s shoulder and both traffic lanes. Alvarado-Martinez was driving a passenger car westbound on the freeway, approaching the jackknifed semi-truck, when he collided with the tractor-trailer.
Though medics administered life-saving treatments at the scene, Alvarado-Martinez died before he could be taken to a hospital. Other occupants of the vehicle survived and were brought to a nearby medical center for treatment of injuries. According to authorities, the truck driver sustained no injuries during the crash.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command East Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team is investigating the collision (M.I.R.T.). Authorities are requesting that anybody with information regarding the collision contact Trooper Mitch Payne of the NHP Elko Office.
Our hearts go out to the family of Juan Alvarado-Martinez at this time.
Jackknife Truck Accidents Across the State of Nevada
Accidents known as jackknifes take place when a huge vehicle, such as a semi-truck, bends in on itself at an angle of ninety degrees.
The term “jackknife accident” refers to the way in which the trailer swings into the cab of the towing vehicle, forcing the cab (the front component of the vehicle that is used for towing) to one side. According to statistics released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, large commercial vehicles were involved in approximately 345,000 accidents across the country in just one year. These accidents included situations in which trucks were jackknifed.
Jackknifed trucks were among the most common types of accidents. There were close to 4,000 fatalities as a consequence of these crashes, and another 100,000 people who were driving tractor-trailers were seriously injured as a result of these accidents.
Unfortunately, Nevada is one of the states with the highest number of reported crashes per capita. This is particularly important to keep in mind while navigating the congested streets of Las Vegas, Sloan, Reno, and other cities. In the aftermath of a traumatic accident, particularly one that involves a large commercial vehicle, victims may be confronted with significant financial challenges in addition to long-term health issues and severe mental anguish.
When victims pass away as a consequence of the injuries they sustained, it is the grieving relatives of the victims who are forced to cope with the hefty medical and burial costs. On the other hand, if you or a loved one have been hurt in a truck accident that might have been avoided, you could be eligible for financial compensation. Please do not hesitate to contact a truck accident lawyer serving the Las Vegas area as soon as possible in order to discuss the many alternatives available to you.
