Pedestrian Crash Deaths in Nevada
Comprehensive data recently released by officials from the Nevada Department of Public Safety and Transportation indicates that there have been nearly 350 traffic accident fatalities statewide through November 2021. This figure marks a 20% increase from 2020 and a 25% rise when compared to numbers from 2019. Sadly, of these deaths, approximately 80 victims were pedestrians.
What’s more, pedestrian accidents comprise almost a quarter of Nevada’s total vehicle deaths. Officers with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department added that a total of about 65% of pedestrian deaths take place in areas where there isn’t a designated crosswalk, while 90% of total fatalities occur on urban streets, mostly in Clark Country.
From Las Vegas to Clark and Reno, busy locations throughout the Silver State are responsible for the overwhelming majority of traffic deaths involving pedestrians. Moreover, many of these fatal accidents occur due to two leading causes: impaired or distracted drivers and excessive speed.
