Reno, NV – Five Hospitalized After Sherwood Apt Fire at 710 Robinhood Dr
Reno, NV (April 26, 2022) – Reno Police Department officers say that 17 people are homeless and five were hospitalized after an apartment fire destroyed seven units in south Reno on Monday evening, April 25.
Rescue crews with the Reno Fire Department received a call about the blaze, located at 710 Robinhood Drive, just after 9:00 p.m. Firefighters say the fire started on the second floor of the Sherwood Apartments building and spread to the third floor. They rescued three victims from one apartment adjacent to the fire and three more people from a unit above the flames.
Five of the people rescued were then transported to an area hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the fire began in the kitchen of one of the units, but officials say the exact cause is still under investigation.
Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery.
Apartment Fires in Nevada
When a victim is exposed to fire, caustic chemicals, or severe heat, they can sustain serious burns. In addition to these injuries being extremely painful, they can also result in permanent deformity, costly surgical treatments, including skin grafts, and beyond.
Sadly, in 2020 alone, almost 20 home fire fatalities were reported by authorities in the Silver State. Moreover, the national average was nearly 3 deaths and 10 injuries in 2019 per 1,000 fires. Though deaths and injuries from commercial fires, as well as other burn injuries, remain fairly rare, they are nonetheless devastating to those involved.
Furthermore, severe burns can result from any of the following accidents, including but not limited to:
- Residential or commercial fires in buildings
- Electrical shocks
- Explosions
- Construction or fracking accidents
- Corrosive chemical spills
Those affected by these incidents often cope with financial difficulties, long-term physical issues, and emotional trauma. When victims die as a result of these fires, their loved ones may be left in an unbelievably tough position. Families must often endure exorbitant medical and funerary expenses on top of grieving the sudden loss of their loved one.
But if you’ve sustained injuries or had a loved one die in a fire, you may have legal options as you move forward. If you’ve been affected by one of these unfortunate accidents, please contact a Reno burn injury attorney at your earliest convenience.
