Elko, NV – NV Gold Mines Worker Killed at Cortez Hills Mine Operation

Elko, NV (February 17, 2022) – An employee at a mine in northern Nevada was killed in an accident caused by equipment on a worksite late Monday evening, February 14.

The worker, who was employed onsite at the Nevada Gold Mines’ Cortez Hills Underground Operation, reportedly died in an accident involving power haulage. authorities say this type of equipment includes shuttle cars, scoops, locomotives, and front-end loaders.

The company released a statement that said the area where the incident occurred was secured, with operations in the immediate vicinity suspended until further notice. The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration was also notified and reported to the worksite to investigate.

Further details about the circumstances of the accident, as well as the victim’s identifying information, have not been made public. The investigation into the cause of the incident remains active.
