Las Vegas, NV – Deadly Pedestrian Accident at Charleston Blvd & Scholl Dr Under Investigation

Las Vegas, NV (May 6, 2022) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is investigating a fatal vehicle accident involving a pedestrian that took place at West Charleston Boulevard and Scholl Drive early Friday morning, May 6.

Around 8:00 a.m., LVMPD officers were dispatched to the intersection after receiving calls in regards to a serious collision. Though medics attempted to revive the pedestrian en route to the hospital, the victim was pronounced dead upon their arrival at UMC Trauma. Police shut down Charleston between Redwood Street and Torrey Pines Drive for several hours while they conducted a preliminary investigation.

No other information about the victim or the driver involved has been provided, but officers stated that their investigation remains active and ongoing at this time.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s family members.

Fatalities in Nevada Pedestrian Accidents

Las Vegas, NV - Deadly Pedestrian Accident at Charleston Blvd & Scholl Dr Under InvestigationOfficials say that 2021 was the Silver State’s deadliest year for vehicle accidents since 2006, according to preliminary state figures provided by the Nevada Department of Transportation. By the end of December, nearly 400 deaths had taken place on Nevada’s roads, a rise of close to 20% compared to 2020.

In and around Clark County, the data was equally grim, with approximately 240 fatalities, marking a 20% increase from the prior year. Regrettably, the top causes of these fatal incidents were speeding and driver impairment, particularly when it came to crashes involving pedestrians.

Statewide, pedestrian deaths also increase year-over-year, with almost 85 deceased victims in 2021 alone. Sadly, when a victim is struck by a careless driver, they are at a much higher risk of critical, debilitating injuries or even death. Oftentimes, these accidents result in lifelong physical issues for the involved pedestrians.

If victims do make a full recovery from their injuries, they may be blindsided by mounting hospital bills, lost wages, and more. When pedestrians die at the hands of another motorist, their bereaved family members are forced to shoulder exorbitant medical expenses and funeral costs, not to mention lost wages and loss of earning potential.
