Las Vegas, NV (March 11, 2022) – Two people were hospitalized after a wrong-way crash involving a semi-truck occurred on I-15 Friday morning, March 11, per reports from Nevada State Police.
Police received a report of a Ford F-150 pickup going south in the northbound lanes at St. Rose Parkway around 2:45 a.m., Trooper Ashlee Wellman said. Shortly thereafter, the pickup crashed head-on with a tractor-trailer at mile marker 15, just north of Jean, causing the semi-truck to burst into flames.
Both drivers were transported to UMC Trauma with serious but not life-threatening injuries. No other passengers were in either vehicle, according to initial information released by police.
Northbound I-15 was closed for several hours as troopers investigated, but it has since reopened. The circumstances surrounding the collision are still unknown, however, and the investigation remains active.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of their full recovery.
Wrong-Way Accidents in Nevada
In 2017, officials say that 100% of deadly wrong-way accidents that happened across the Silver State involved driver impairment. Unfortunately, last year ended with almost 400 lives lost on Nevada’s roadways due to DUI, a 14-year high. Crashes were up more than 90% and fatal accidents were up nearly 115% in May alone.
And during the past year, deadly auto accidents throughout Nevada have more than doubled when compared to the same time period in 2020. There were almost 30 crashes during this time, with more than 30 fatalities reported statewide.
Furthermore, since the beginning of 2021, more than 100 crashes have happened in Clark County, resulting in more than 100 fatalities. This marks a year-to-date increase of more than 40%.
It’s clear that fatal auto accidents are all too common in the state of Nevada. When victims die as a result of these incidents, their loved ones may be left in an unbelievably tough position. Families must often endure exorbitant medical and funerary expenses.
But if you’ve been affected by one of these crashes, you may have legal options. If you’ve sustained injuries or lost a loved one as a result of another party’s negligent actions, please contact a Las Vegas auto accident lawyer at your earliest convenience.
