Las Vegas, NV – Man in Critical Condition After Pedestrian Accident at Flamingo Rd & Arville St

Las Vegas, NV (August 5, 2022) – After an accident on August 4, Thursday evening, in the southwest valley, a pedestrian is in critical condition.

The crash happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. near West Flamingo Road, east of Arville Street, in Las Vegas, according to Metro Police Department officers. A pedestrian was crossing Flamingo at the time. The 21-year-old man was then struck and thrown forward by an eastbound Chevrolet Malibu on Flamingo.

The patient’s condition was critical, and officers say he was airlifted to UMC Trauma with injuries that were life-threatening. Despite the fact that the Chevrolet driver showed no signs of impairment, Metro’s Crash Investigation Section is still looking into the collision, according to police.

We send the victim our deepest condolences and pray for his full recovery.

Accidents & Injuries to Pedestrians in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV - Man in Critical Condition After Pedestrian Accident at Flamingo Rd & Arville StThe number of fatal and nonfatal auto accidents is expected to reach an all-time high in 2021, making it the worst year since 2005, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation. By the end of December of the previous year, Nevada recorded 370 traffic fatalities, a nearly 30% increase from the year before.

In Clark County, where this horrible trend is on the rise, some 250 individuals were killed. The two main factors contributing to these major accidents, in which pedestrians suffered disproportionate injuries or even death, were drunk driving and excessive speed. Officials further say there could have been up to 85 pedestrian deaths in the state in 2021, depending on the final tally and data.

Driving while distracted also increases the risk of a pedestrian accident. Examples include texting, chatting on the phone, and adjusting the radio. Worst of all, the afflicted can have ongoing physical and mental stress. Even if they fully recover, victims may still be affected by increased medical costs, lost wages, and other such effects. The family of a pedestrian killed in an accident must pay astronomical medical and funeral expenses, which is unsettling, to say the least.
