Las Vegas, NV – Sandy Valley Pedestrian Crash on Quartz Ave Leaves Man Dead

Las Vegas, NV (July 2, 2022) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run collision that occurred in Sandy Valley on Friday evening, July 1.

Officers arrived at 1650 East Quartz Avenue at 9:31 p.m. after receiving reports of a Toyota Corolla hitting a person and fleeing the area. Investigators suspect the Toyota Corolla was driving west on Quartz Avenue when it collided with a person who was walking in the same lane. The pedestrian was thrown forward onto the ground, while the driver of the Toyota neglected to stay at the site of the accident and departed the scene.

Car parts were discovered at the location, and witness accounts suggested the vehicle was a silver 1993-1997 Toyota Corolla four-door sedan. The 77-year-old pedestrian was declared dead at the scene, although medics attempted life-saving measures. Any person with information is encouraged to contact the Collision Investigation Section of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

We send our heartfelt condolences to the deceased victim’s family.

Pedestrian Fatalities in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV - Sandy Valley Pedestrian Crash on Quartz Ave Leaves Man DeadAccording to the Nevada Department of Transportation, 2021 will be the worst year for fatal and nonfatal automobile accidents in the Silver State since 2005. In reality, there had been a 23% rise in traffic fatalities in Nevada by the end of December the previous year, with almost 390 deaths. Furthermore, approximately 240 individuals died in Clark County, where the trend was much worse.

Unfortunately, the leading causes of these fatal collisions, especially those involving pedestrians, were excessive speed and intoxicated driving. Because of the statewide rise in pedestrian deaths, the final total and statistics for 2021 might show that up to 80 people died by the end of the year. Unfortunately, a distracted driver, such as one who is texting, talking on the phone, or fiddling with the radio, is significantly more likely to kill or injure someone. These occurrences may cause significant, long-term physiological and emotional pain in victims.

Even if victims recover entirely, they may have to cope with quickly escalating medical care costs, lost income and future pay, as well as other expenditures. When a pedestrian is killed, his or her family must pay astronomical medical and funeral expenses. You do have options if you or a loved one were injured or died in a preventable accident.
