Las Vegas, NV (December 13, 2021) – Authorities have identified a man who was killed in a serious vehicle crash that occurred early Friday morning, December 10, in downtown Las Vegas.
The man, identified as 50-year-old Julio Maymi-Diaz, died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries at an area medical center.
Police have arrested 24-year-old Daysia Brown in connection with the wreck, which was reported just before 2:00 a.m. at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Gass Avenue.
Per Metro police, Brown was driving her Jeep eastbound on Gass when she ran a red light at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard. She then collided with a Toyota that was traveling northbound. Maymi-Diaz was riding as a passenger in the Toyota.
Brown remains in custody on a $50,000 bond at the Clark County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in court this week on a charge of DUI resulting in death.
The investigation remains active, and further details about other occupants involved in the accident have not been released.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Julio Maymi-Diaz. Our thoughts are with any injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
Nevada Motor Vehicle Accidents
Officials with the Nevada Department of Transportation noted that more than 50,000 vehicle accidents occur each year across the state. Furthermore, officials from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated that the majority of these crimes occur in the Las Vegas metropolitan region.
Approximately 70% of fatal accidents occur in these metropolitan areas. Plus, almost half of those accidents happened in Clark County, notably in Las Vegas and Clark. It’s evident that these car accidents are an awful reality of life in Nevada, particularly on the streets of Las Vegas and the surrounding area, which includes Clark and Reno.
It goes without saying that victims and their families are particularly susceptible in the aftermath of harmful or even deadly vehicle accidents. Oftentimes, after a serious auto accident, those affected cope with financial difficulties, long-term physical issues, and major emotional trauma.
