North Las Vegas Accidents Involving Hit-and-Run Drivers

North Las Vegas, NV - Hit-and-Run on US 95 at Craig Rd Under InvestigationIn order to avoid taking responsibility for their actions, many motorists leave the scene of an accident. Negligent parties who commit what is known as “hit-skips” or “hit-and-runs” cause accidents in which other motorists are seriously injured or killed or incur significant repair and medical costs, and then they escape the scene of the accident. The frequency of hit-and-run accidents increased considerably last year, as the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reported. Statistics show that a hit-and-run occurs every minute in the United States.

The annual average of hit-and-runs has risen to approximately 670,000 cases since 2006. Since last year, there has been a significant rise in the population. In 2016, authorities anticipate 2,000 deaths to occur under similar circumstances, a 62% rise from 2009. Over the previous decade, the hit-and-run rate rose by an annual average of 8%. If a driver flees the scene of an accident in Nevada, they might be arrested and charged with a misdemeanor. These drivers may face up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine if convicted.

However, if there is substantial property damage, significant physical injury, or death, the charge may be enhanced to a Class B felony.
