North Las Vegas, NV (January 30, 2022) – Nine people died and six others suffered serious injuries when a driver ran a red light and plowed into multiple vehicles in North Las Vegas on Saturday evening, January 29.

Minors were among those killed in the crash, which happened around 3:00 p.m., said Alexander Cuevas, a North Las Vegas Police Department spokesperson. He said the suspected at-fault driver, who was in a Dodge Challenger, was also killed.

A total of six vehicles were involved, per officers on the scene. Authorities say the Challenger’s driver initially hit two vehicles in the oncoming eastbound lanes of Cheyenne Avenue, then hit three vehicles in a westbound lane. One of the first vehicles struck was a Toyota Sienna minivan with three adults and four children traveling inside, all of whom perished in the accident.

Two people in another vehicle were taken to the University Medical Center hospital via ambulance and one of those victims died there. Six other victims who were injured suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, though speed is suspected as the main cause of the collision. The Clark County Coroner’s Office is slated to release the identities of the victims, as well as their causes and manners of death, later this week.
