According to police, first responders and fire rescue crews arrived on State Street, just west of Holcomb Avenue, on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a severely injured 69-year-old man lying on the sidewalk. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Nevada

Reno, NV - Man Dies in Pedestrian Accident on State St at Holcomb AvePer authorities with the Nevada Department of Transportation, driving under the influence and failure to yield the right-of-way are two of the leading cause of traffic accidents in the Silver State. Moreover, these two causes, along with distracted driving and speeding, are the top contributors to auto-pedestrian wrecks in Nevada.

Even worse, pedestrian fatalities account for nearly 20% of all vehicle accident deaths, per reports from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Although deaths were lower in 2019 overall, they have increased more than 50% since reaching their lowest point, recorded in 2009.

Unfortunately, the pedestrian fatality rate in and around the greater Las Vegas area, including Reno, has risen steadily in the last decade.

Major financial difficulties, long-term physical issues and disability, and severe emotional scarring are just a few of the devastating circumstances victims endure. And when victims die as a result of these incidents, their loved ones may be left in an unbelievably tough position. Families must often cope with exorbitant medical and funerary expenses on top of grieving their loved ones.

Thankfully, if you’ve sustained injuries or lost someone you love in an auto-pedestrian accident, you may have legal options moving forward.
