Reno, NV (March 6, 2022) – Two people were transported to the hospital on Sunday morning, March 6, with life-threatening injuries after a wrong-way driver reportedly caused an accident on Wells Avenue, officers with theReno Police Department said.

The alleged wrong-way driver, 28-year-old Aveena Adriana Saenz, was booked on charges of drunken driving causing substantial bodily harm, driving on a suspended license, and reckless driving.

The incident happened about 6:00 a.m. at Wells Avenue and East Second Street and led to the closure of the intersection. Initial reports from the scene indicated that Saenz was driving a Toyota Tundra the wrong way on East Second Street when they failed to stop at an intersection and collided with a Toyota Yaris traveling northbound on Wells Avenue. The impact caused the Yaris to roll onto its side and trap two people, who both suffered serious injuries.

The two victims were hospitalized, but their current conditions are unknown. The investigation into the accident remains active, and officers have not released the identities of the injured victims.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.
