Las Vegas, NV (May 8, 2022) –According to Las Vegas Metro Police, a hit-and-run motorist caused an accident on Sunday evening, May 8, injuring at least one individual.
Officers and additional first responders, including Las Vegas Fire Rescue, were called to the southbound junction of Hollywood Boulevard and Wildcat Way at 8:30 p.m. The LVMPD said that the accident included two or three cars, with one motorist leaving the scene prior to their arrival. Reports indicate that another person was transferred to a nearby hospital for other treatment of their injuries, though they are anticipated to make a full recovery.
Authorities have not released any information on the suspected at-fault driver or their car, and the investigation is still underway.
Our sincere thoughts are with the accident’s injured victims and their families. We wish all of those involved a complete recovery.
Crashes Involving Hit-Skip Drivers in Nevada
Under Nevada law, if a hit-and-run or hit-skip accident results in the death or physical injury of another person, the defendant risks harsh punishment. Hit-and-run drivers may also face felony charges, which carry a minimum term of two years and a maximum of 20 years in prison.
Unfortunately, the Nevada Department of Transportation reports that Nevada claims one of the worst rates of fatal hit-and-run accidents in the country.
This number is particularly disturbing when contrasted with the national average, which shows one hit-and-run incidence per minute. Furthermore, according to the most recent data from the AAA, major crashes resulted in nearly 2,000 deaths in only one year. Authorities stated that this is the largest amount ever recorded, with the number virtually tripling in the preceding decade.
Vehicle accident victims may experience financial troubles, continuing health issues and pain, and substantial mental distress. When victims are involved in a hit-and-run collision, the negative consequences are compounded. From difficult insurance negotiations to lost earnings and beyond, those affected by these tragic vehicle wrecks may not know which steps to take in the aftermath.
