Las Vegas, NV (May 1, 2022) – Las Vegas Metro Police Department officers say that a collision involving a hit-and-run driver occurred on Sunday afternoon, May 1, leaving at least one person with injuries.
Police and other first responders were dispatched to the scene at St. Rose Parkway and Amigo Street around 1:15 p.m. Early indications from the LVMPD are that the collision involved at least two motorists, with one driver leaving the scene after the incident.
Medics reportedly took one person to a local hospital, where they underwent further treatment for their injuries. The number of victims and the extent of their injuries remain unclear, however.
Authorities have not released a description of the suspect driver or their car, and the investigation remains active at this time.
Our thoughts are with the victims who were injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.
Hit-and-Run Car Accidents in Nevada
Under Nevada law, if a hit-and-run accident results in death or bodily injury to any person, there are major penalties for the offender. Hit-and-run drivers may be charged with a felony, which is punishable by at least two years in prison and can result in up to 20 years in prison.
However, the Nevada Department of Transportation’s latest data indicates that the Silver State has one of the highest rates of fatal hit-and-run collisions in the country. This data is especially dire when compared to the national average, where one hit-and-run collision occurs every minute.
What’s more, the latest reports released by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety note that these incidents resulted in more than 2,000 deaths over the span of just one recent year. Authorities say this is the highest number on record, a figure that has almost doubled in the last decade.
Typically, after a serious auto accident, victims cope with financial difficulties, long-term physical issues, and major emotional trauma. When victims are involved in a hit-and-run crash, these unfortunate consequences are only maximized. From dealing with stressful insurance negotiations to high medical costs, those affected by these wrecks may not know where to turn in the aftermath.
